Operation Christmas Joy needs you! Consider helping to make this a merry holiday for those less fortunate. Hands and hearts are needed to load bags and boxes for delivery to needy families.
A minimum 2-hour shift on Saturday, December 21 from 8 am to 12 noon would help the cause of spreading Christmas joy throughout the local area. Packaging and loading will be at the VHS field house behind the stadium.
Operation Christmas Joy collects and distributes food, toys, gloves, hats and more to local Vermilion families in need during the holiday season. Since 1970, this dedicated group of volunteers and contributors have brought Christmas joy to struggling families.
Names are provided to the organization from the Salvation Army, food pantries, family members and school groups. Operation Christmas Joy verifies the names and needs for accuracy. Volunteers determine the number of children in each family, their ages, and their gender. Children under the age of 16 receive gender specific gifts.
Toys-for-Tots works with Operation Christmas Joy, providing many of the presents. Food is obtained, at a discount, at Dollar General, the Vermilion Farm Market and Second Harvest Food Bank.
Help spread a little holiday joy. Gift barrels are located throughout Vermilion at numerous businesses for you to donate to the cause. Angel trees, also located throughout the city, allow you to remove an angel, purchase a gift for a child, and bring the wrapped gift to the tree.
Operation Christmas Joy is chaired by Brad Schwab. Donations can be sent to Operation Christmas Joy, c/o Brad Schwab, 4546 Liberty Avenue, Vermilion, Ohio 44089.
Volunteers are also needed to sort food and to deliver packages. Packing takes place on December 19th from 7 pm to 9 pm at the Field House. Delivery takes place on December 21st from 9 am to noon at the Field House. Vans, covered trucks and large cars are needed.
