The Friends of Harbour Town 1837 will once again be placing U.S. flags along Liberty Avenue and Main Street for display between Memorial Day and Labor Day. The organization has raised over $3,000 to continue the project.
“With the help of many private donors like yourselves...we were able to completely fund this beautification project for our great city,” stated Charl Gabel, Chairperson of Friends of Harbour Town Inc.
“Vermilion is blessed to have so many non-profit organizations working together towards a common goal,” said Gabel. “Vermilion in Bloom’s placement of flowers and hanging baskets, Main Street Vermilion’s focus on the arts, and the Friends of Harbour Town’s placement of flags and the Christmas greens all contribute to the visual testament of Vermilion’s greatness.”
Last year’s flag placement of over one hundred flags, at a cost of about $50.00 each, was achieved without any expense to the City of Vermilion.
“The project was not without its challenges, however, as high winds and weather irreparably damaged about forty of those flags,” stated Gabel.
In order to continue, and possibly expand the flag placements, the organization asked for continued support financially. The goal was to raise $2000.00 for flag replacement and another $2000.00 after that amount for future needs and possible expansion of this wonderful example of Vermilion Pride.
Gable stated, “Your continued support and enthusiasm are greatly appreciated, and we look forward to your future efforts in helping with donations. We are always in need of volunteers to keep a watchful eye on our flags in placement, and in maintenance of the flags as need requires. You can find us on Facebook to either volunteer or just to report flags that need attention throughout the summer.”
Donations can be mailed to Friends Of Harbour Town Inc., 1307 State Street, Vermilion Ohio 44089 or dropped off at Novotny Farm Market (15010 Haber Road) during regular business hours. Checks should be made out to “Friends of Harbour Town Inc.” and are tax-deductible.
