Vermilion Sail and Power Squadron’s Past District Commander, David Baliorucki, SN, was honored at the Annual National United States Power Squadron Winter Meeting in February in Orlando, Florida. Baliorucki has reached the coveted 50 Merit Mark Award. A member can only earn 1 merit mark per year of service no matter how much they contribute or offices or duties performed. Baliorucki, VSPS’s Squadron’s Education Officer, also serves as the Squadron’s Membership Officer. His instructors teach over 50 new boaters a year with America’s Boating Course. Boaters born after January 1st, 1982 (younger than 38 years old) need to have at least 8 hours of instruction and pass a test to be legal on the water. It is the Power Squadron’s stance that ANYONE who operates a vessel on any lake or river should have a Safe Boating Course.
Baliorucki also performs an astounding 100+ vessel safety examinations per year. Yearly Vessel Safety Examinations are welcomed by boaters as they assist in keeping them safe on our waterways. VSEs are completely voluntary and the information exchanged is only between the boater and examiner, however, boaters proudly display their yearly stickers as a badge of honor and respect of our waterways. Vermilion, and all of Lorain County as well as any boater on Lake Erie, is safer because Dave Baliorucki has devoted his entire adult life to keeping boaters safe.
Baliorucki will be honored at the District 7 Awards dinner slated for later in June.
