Share Your Talents In The Vermilion Schools

As part of creating a positive attitude toward aging, a joint project between Serving Our Seniors of Erie County and Vermilion Local Schools is being initiated. People 60 and over are invited to create an inter-generational environment by volunteering in the Vermilion Schools. Three areas of need have been identified: Elementary classroom volunteers, middle school reading and math tutors, and high school guest speakers on science and math topics.

Elementary volunteers would need to dedicate 2 hours per week to assisting in a specific classroom on a consistent basis. Likewise, reading and math tutors would need to dedicate two hours a week to assisting their assigned students. High school speakers would coordinate their visits with a specific teacher to align with the topics being taught. All volunteers would receive a complimentary adult school lunch, provided by Serving Our Seniors on the day(s) they volunteer in the schools.

Serving Our Seniors is sponsoring a luncheon and invites those age 60 and better to explore if this inter-generational volunteer opportunity fits your lifestyle. Returning volunteers and teachers will explain the details of the various volunteer roles. The luncheon will be held on August 20 at noon at the Vermilion High School Cafeteria.

Advanced registration is required for planning purposes. Call (440) 204-1723 or e-mail cakers@vermilionschools.org no later than August 16th.
