Enjoy the sights, sounds, and health benefits of nature on a brisk and pretty hike at Vermilion River Reservation. Meet at the Walking Center trailhead on the Bacon Woods side. This Moderate Level hike is weather dependent.

Vitamin 'N'ature Hike takes place on Thursday, February 25, 2021 at Vermilion Reservation on the Bacon Woods side from 2 pm to 2:45 pm. This 'Moderate Level' hike is weather dependent and may be muddy or slippery in spots. Programs will be limited to a group of 10 or less, including program leaders.

Begin with going on a self-guided nature scavenger hunt hike; afterwards relax and warm-up at your own private firepit making yummy s'mores (all materials provided) while enjoying Mill Hollow’s romantic, wintery scenery.

Nothing is more iconic to the local landscape than the Vermilion Lighthouse, which looks out over Lake Erie at the foot of Main Street. There's a rich, deep history to this marvelous structure. A dedicated, ongoing effort seeks to preserve it for generations to come. Main Street Vermilion's Lighthouse Preservation Committee is dedicated.

Winter Survival Series: Shelter Building takes place on Saturday, February 6, 2021 from 1 pm to 2 pm at Vermilion River Reservation. In this first part of the survival series, learn how to make a basic debris hut shelter, and participate in a shelter building competition.

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr., Lorain County Metro Parks are hosting a 7-day program event, “Remember the Dream.” This event will begin on Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday, January 15, and continue beyond MLK Day, ending Friday, January 22. This event will have a virtual component, online activities, and outdoor experiences for everyone to enjoy. You will find everything you need.

If you missed the Halloween pirate treasure hunt or want to do it again, swing by Vermilion River Reservation's Carriage Barn to pick-up a Treasure Hunt map left behind by a pirate known as Jack Fearsome Frost.

Vermilion, Ohio is sometimes gifted with unseasonably warm days throughout the traditional winter months, and paddlers take advantage of warmer weather to rescue their boat from storage and take it for a float down the river. If you’re that avid paddler, it is extremely important to dress appropriately in order to have fun and stay safe out on the water.

Water temperatures are dropping, and the threat of hypothermia is rising. Hypothermia is a potentially dangerous drop in body temperature that is caused by prolonged exposure to cold temperatures.
