The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District, strongly urges individuals to use caution around Lake Erie and, and all the Great Lakes, and to be aware of safety hazards resulting from high water levels. Many accidents and incidents near harbor structures occur during the turbulent weather seasons of fall and winter, but higher than normal water levels pose safety threats year round.

Lake Erie water levels continue to reach record highs. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District, recently announced that January 2020 water levels were higher on all Great Lakes than they were in January 2019, and are expected to continue that trend into the spring and summer. “This sets the stage for coastal impacts and damages in 2020."

Parents of children with special needs will find valuable information plus training and the chance to network with others at a new resource center set to open this spring in the children’s department at Ritter Public Library. The center is being funded by a grant from the Ohio Department of Education won by Melissa Wagner.

A group of concerned citizens who want to save the Harbor View Mansion from demolition will meet on Thursday, February 20, 2020 at 6 pm at Ritter Public Library. The group believes that while the city does not have funds to renovate and maintain the historic property, there are other ways to proceed rather than demolition.

Vermilion in Bloom Ladies Night, hosted by Vermilion in Bloom and Main Street Vermilion, takes place on Thursday, February 20, 2020 from 7 pm to 9 pm at Vermilion Boat Club at 5416 Liberty Avenue in Vermilion, Ohio.
