There Is Still Time To Be Creative For Vermilion’s Driftwood Art Contest

Main Street Vermilion’s Driftwood Art Contest Returns in August 2020 with a “virtual” twist. Get ready for the second annual All Washed Up! Vermilion’s driftwood art contest returns this August with a format for coming together in a different way. Main Street Vermilion’s new format will take advantage of social media and its website to bring beautiful driftwood creations to everyone.

Last year, All Washed Up drew more than 800 spectators to Friendship Park to enjoy the artwork and explore the atmosphere, shopping, dining and good vibes in Vermilion. This year Main Street Vermilion’s takes the show online. Different but no less interesting, delightful and inspiring.

Driftwood artists, join All Washed Up 2020! Here’s how:

Now is the time to get out there and collect driftwood! Gathering driftwood is an outdoor activity that lends itself to social distancing practices, access to fresh air and a chance to enjoy our beautiful Lake Erie beaches.

What amazing art are you going to create using driftwood? Get busy! Don’t forget that you can add other washed up items to your creation including recycled items, beach glass and stones, washed up oddities, feathers and more.

Finished? It’s time to photograph your creation. Take 2 or 3 photos of the finished piece from different angles. One from the angle people would naturally view, and another from the side. It’s always best to take your photo on a cloudy day or out of direct sunlight. Make sure your work fills the frame, not too far away but not too close. Choose a background that’s neutral or uncluttered and won’t distract from your piece. Be sure to save and submit in a JPG format.

Now it’s time to submit your entry! All Washed Up registration is open from Monday, June 22, 2020 at 8 am through midnight Sunday, July 26, 2020. It’s free to enter and open to all: students, teens, adults, teams, amateurs and professional artists. Everyone is encouraged to join and share their creative work.

The All Washed Up Online Gallery will be live on Main Street Vermilion’s website from Sunday, July 27th through Wednesday, August 5th for voting. Driftwood fans will have a chance to admire your work and cast a vote for their favorite in each category. Top ten vote-getters and a People’s Favorite will get a big fat ribbon and be invited to display their winning entry in one of our local businesses throughout mid-September.

New driftwood washes up everyday on all of our Vermilion and neighboring beaches. Start collecting and dreaming today!
